The title is an acronym for the artist’s series of graphic works titled “There Is No Such Thing As Eternal Joy”. A distinct element is the silhouette of a teddy bear that appears in a series of digitally manipulated photographs. For this public art project, Velasco collaborated with Reg Yuson by allowing the latter to execute the flat teddy bear design into a massive structure made of steel and finished with blue pastel-colored aircraft paint. This translation further changes our usual notion of the teddy bear as cute, cuddly, and soft. Amusingly, this shadow-like figure casts its own permanent shadow on the ground.
